Tourism in the area draws on the maritime and emigration legacy of the town - including its association with the RMS Titanic. cobh was the last port of call on  Titanic’s fatal, maiden voyage in April 11, 1912.

We return to  Cork city to visit the English Market has been around since 1788. Far from being English (it’s named for its Protestant origins), this is the place to pick up traditional specialties like drisheen and pigs’ trotters, although the 55 or so stalls also stock bread, fish, cheese and fruit and veg. The market has survived fire, civil war and an attempted name change, but it took a failed bid to replace it with a parking lot in the 1980s for the people of Cork to realize that their culinary capital was worth saving! Today hailed as the "best covered market in the UK and Ireland" by chef Rick Stein, the English Market is thriving. Drop into the Farmgate Café for delicious dishes made from the market’s wares.

Day 10After a full Irish breakfast we will check-out of Maldron Shandon Hotel. and head towards Dublin. On the way to Dublin, we’ll stop and have a private guided tour of ‘The Rock of Cashel’. According to local mythology, the Rock of Cashel originated in the Devil's Bit, a mountain 20 miles (30 km) north of Cashel when St. Patrick banished Satan from a cave, resulting in the Rock's landing in Cashel. Cashel is reputed to be the site of the conversion of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in the 5th century. The Rock of Cashel was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. In 1101, the King of Munster, Muirchertach Ua Briain, donated his fortress on the Rock to the Church. The picturesque complex has a character of its own and is one of the most remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture to be found anywhere in Europe. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries.  We’ll check-in at ‘The Camden Court Hotel’. Dinner this evening will be at ‘The Momento Restaurant’  just across from our hotel.
